We used air dry clay to create these adorable snowman pins. The students rolled the clay and used shaped cutters to create these cool snowmen! They were primed with white spray paint and then the students used sharpies to add their details and they were super creative! I don't know which one is my favorite!

Tinting with Tempera, Painting Owls on a Snowy Night
Kindergarten was so excited to begin painting with tempera! This idea came from Deep Space Sparkle. We discussed owls, their shape and form, how they have tufts rather than ears, facial disks around their eyes and other body parts like talons. We read books like, "Owl Moon" and "Squib."
For the Art Process we painted construction paper with a color of their choice and then added white. When you add white to a color you get its tint. At the very end we flicked white paint for a snow like effect. The next art class, we painted the owl bodies and tree branches. Last, we painted on eyes with orange. Then, in black added pupils and traced their forms, and included curved lines for texture. I am so excited with their outcome and they had so much fun with the painting process!

Crayon Resist Fall Leaves
1st and 2nd grade created crayon resist Fall Leaves. First, we discussed leaves, their texture and the veins in a leaf and colors. We also read Lois Ehlert's book, "Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf." The children traced leaf shapes onto paper and drew in the veins of the leaves. The students used fall colors to paint inside the leaves with water colors. The last step was to paint the background with variations of purple water color. They turned out great.
Some students went over their leaves with oil pastels so that that veins would stand out a little bit more. Water color projects turn out very well. The color and variation are stunning.

Texture Pendants with Clay
Today we were breaking one of our clay rules... if it falls on the floor, pick it up... instead, we stepped on it and made "Sneaker Charms". This project was inspired by a pin seen on Pinterest and found on Mrs. Knights' Smartest Artist Blog... the Kindergarten and 1st graders loved this. It was quick, easy and a lot of fun. They found texture on the bottom of their shoes! We used air dry clay and will use an acrylic glazing medium.
We used different shaped cutters for different charms. The children were given the option to create pins, pendants, or ornaments. Either way, they were very successful with the outcome. |

Re-cycle and Re-Use Cardboard rolls to Create Owls!
Inspired by a Pinterest pin, from fresh and fun blog.. my kindergarteners created these personality filled owls for Fall focusing on tint and texture and working on fine motor with cutting hand painting! First we used cardboard rolls and pushed down one end and taped it. Each child chose a color and painted it and then added white for TINT!
Kindergarten cut out paper and glued them onto the painted tubes for texture. They cut out circles for facial disks, triangles for beaks, and picked out feathers for wings and tufts.
They are so colorful and the children's imaginations and personality shine through. |
We glued googly eyes onto the circle facial disks. They turned out great. I can't wait to put them on display!
I made some colorful trees with construction paper and pipe cleaners for the display, but the highlight is the kindergarten owls.... |
