Learning Tinting and Shading with Painted Bugs

For this project, we drew bugs together.  We discussed their parts and made up bugs of our own and then drew our favorite onto a 9x12 piece of construction paper.  When we were done with our pencil drawings, we started off with tinting. Tinting is when you add white to a color and we tried to make as many values as possible.  After tinting, we added black and created many values of shading.  The kids had a lot of fun trying to make as many tints and shades of a color as possible.  Once the paint was dry, the children outlined their creep crawlers.

It's Been a While...

I have been out for 12 weeks on maternity leave! Our newest addition to the Lynn family, Jacob, was a little early, so he spent some time in the NICU... but you would never know it. He has grown so quickly! It is so exciting to be back in the WB studio!  I have missed my artists!  I loved getting their cards and artwork while in the hospital, they always put a smile on my face!

Home from the hospital.

Creative Crayon Resist Still Life Paintings

Kindergarten and 1st grade students studied symmetry when cutting out their vases of construction paper.  They drew patterns on the vases.  Patterns show repetition.  They glued their vases down on a large piece of construction paper.  Then they drew gardens of flower blooms with layers of crayons. Last, they painted with water color.  These are perfect for Mother's Day! I love how they turned out.
